Installing CamSeek

This is what I did to install it:

If you don’t have it installed already, you need to go out to Windows Update and install the Microsoft .Net Framework version 1.1.

Open Internet Explorer, select tools, and then Windows Update.  Select scan for changes on the page.  If you have any critical updates listed as needing to be installed, select for them to be installed, and then come back to the page again after your system has been updated with those patches.

Directly underneath the Critical Updates and Service Packs listing is another entry simply called “Windows XP or whatever else you are using?.”  Select that dialogue and scroll down the page until you find the .Net Framework add-on I mentioned above, it is 23 megabytes to install.

Ensure you have the latest version of Messenger 6 on your system; the program apparently needs files from the Messenger install to run.  Even if you installed Messenger 6 when it very first came out, you may want to do it again, because they have updated it to fix some bugs.  The popular ytunnel pro tool used with Messenger explicitly states you must upgrade to the newest version of Messenger to use their software.

After the .Net Framework is installed and Messenger 6 is installed/upgraded, you can extract the setup file from the CamSeek Zip file and install it.

Although I haven’t tested it, the author’s site mentions integrating this software with YahElite.

YahElite is a nice, ad free, chat client that is available for free at www.yahelite.org

The author has his own website as listed above, so if you have any questions or problems about running or using the software, you need to address those with him.  I am not a source of support for this software.

I did verify with the author of CamSeek that the software is free to use.
