The primary is wound with 3mm copper tubing from a
refrigeration/air-conditioning repair supply place. There
are six primary supports holding the windings in a flat
spiral. I cut them out from polyethylene chopping board,
and drilled slightly undersize holes along them for the
tubing to press-fit into. I made the supports quite deep
so there's room to tap the coil from directly underneath.
There's also a strike rail - I used 1/4" tubing
for that because I needed it to be a bit more robust. The
brass ball things came off an old bedstead someone was
throwing out. I haven't needed the strike rail yet - my
streamers aren't long enough to threaten the primary, and
the topload seems to throw them mostly upwards anyway,
but it just seemed like a good idea.
