To keep this TC-related, and helpful not hindering, I have left out terms such as AC/DC, Volt, Amp... tc. I will find a nice page for simple things like those, and put a link here.

CAP (Capacitor) - Stores energy until given a chance to release it.

Coiler - One of us. We play/work with Tesla Coils, and their related components.

Corcom - (Brand Name) Line filter used to keep RF currents from getting back into the mains.

Disruptive Tesla Coil - The standard Tesla coil built by many people. Uses a spark gap, and a capacitor to produce the oscillations.

Mains - The main power network throughout your house. 120/240 VAC @ 60Hz .

MOT (Microwave Oven Transformer) - Transformers used in Microwaves. Very easy to find. Outputs range from 2-4 kV @ 200-500 mA. Can be seriesed for higher voltages. Good for intermediate coilers.

NST (Neon Sign Transformer) - Transformers used to power neon signs. Outputs range from 10-15 kV @ 30-60 mA. Lower voltage and higher current models are also made. Good for begining coilers.

RF (Radio Frequency) - Current that alternates at high frequencies (usually kHz) and is possibly dangerous to electronics, and humans.

RSG (Rotary Spark Gap) - A type of spark gap with stationary electrodes, and electrodes mounted on a rotating disk. This ensures that the gap fires and quenches at the proper times.

SG (Spark Gap) - An automatic, voltage-controlled switch. When the voltage accross the gap reaches a set level, the air between the gap ionizes, and provides a low-resistance path for the voltage. Types include: Static, Rotary, and Triggered.

SSTC (Solid State Tesla Coil) - A Tesla Coil that uses solid state components, (Usually MOSFETs), to produce the oscillations, instead of the spark gap used in 'standard' disruptive Tesla coils.

SSG (Static Spark Gap) - A type of spark gap that has no external means of triggering. Fires by itself, only when the voltage accross it reaches a set level.

TC (Tesla Coil) - Click for info

TSG (Triggered Spark Gap) - A type of spark gap that is externaly triggered. Consists of three electrodes: The outer two are the main spark gap electrodes, while the inner one is the trigger 'trode. Normally, the voltage in the tank circuit is not high enough to jump the main gap, but when another voltage source produces a spark between the trigger gap, and one of the other gaps, the tank voltage only has to jump about half as far. Variac - (Brand Name) Low Voltage variable autotransformers. Usually  120/240  in,  140/280  out. Used to 'soft-start' a coil, or control a motor's speed.

VTTC (Vacuum Tube Tesla Coil) - A Tesla Coil which uses vacuum tubes to produce the oscillations.
