Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency
(DARPA)
DARPA periodically places a list of projects "out there",
which give companies the opportunity to get government funding with which to design and
build solutions. The problem areas include munitions and conventional weapons, advanced
vehicles, new missiles, rockets, guidance systems, protective clothing, advanced computer
systems and software, lasers, masers, Synthetic Aperature Radar, target acquisition and
analysis, and much more. They also get into such interesting areas as:
- Covert video cameras which detect movement and turn on, which have
built-in storage memory and remote infrared beam playback capability which can run on an
internal battery for one year. Oh
yes, this entire camera and recorder is less than 1/10th cubic inch in size! We're talking
about a video camera and solid state recorder that is smaller than a house fly.
- Electromagnetic "flux compression generators" which can
produce serveral BILLION watts of power - to power EMP (electro magnetic pulse) and microwave
weapons which can instantly destroy every electrical device for thousands of feet.
- Minature
hovering aircraft 6 inches in diameter, with video and infrared viewing capability which
can fly up to 10,000 feet altitude, 40 miles distance, and dash and dart at over 100 KPH. Insect size covert viewing platforms are also being researched now. Some
of the video cameras are mere millimeters in size, and the aircraft may be covered with
them.
- Millimeter
wavelength microwave imaging systems for "though the wall" covert viewing. These systems produce almost video quality images of people inside
offices and homes - right through walls and doors.
- Weapons which can kill and maim - using radio waves, sound, and light.
- Some of these EMP weapons can be easily built and used by
terrorists to destroy or disable commercial aircraft electronics on approach or takeoff at
airports. The electromagnetic pulses contain enough energy that it may be possible for
fuel tank vapors to be explosively ignited - indeed, terrorists may have already brought
down American commercial planes already. Typically, an EMP weapon leaves little trace that
it has been used. Depending on type of weapon, there may be no sound or other indication
that it has been fired. A Texas company was contracted by the government to develop
sensors to be placed on aircraft to help protect against this type of attack, but the
contract was cancelled. See Texas Engineering Solutions: http://www.dallas.net/~pevler/
- A
software toolkit to be used by "spook" agencies, which contain special viruses
to infect a suspect's computer, which periodically contacts the spook's computer and
snitches on where the suspect has gone on the internet, and what he has done. The virus also disables all encryption software on the PC, so files cannot
be made private. The user has NO indication this has been done to the PC.
I used the Web Ferret search engine to search for ARPA, and dug
through 3,000 links to find these reports, both current and old. You are free to do the
same. WebFerret is at: http://www.ferretsoft.com/
I combed through a few thousand abstracts and picked out the
"good stuff". I then separated it into loose catagories and present it to you
below. Please browse those areas that are of interest to you. Heck, browse it all, I
guarantee you'll find almost all of it fascinating. This is where hundreds of millions of
YOUR tax dollars is being spent. But remember, the REALLY good projects would never be
mentioned by DARPA or any other goverment agency on the Internet! God only knows what else
is happening. Oh yes, one more thing - do a search on "ECHELON" once you get
install Web Ferret. Big Brother IS watching.
Below are the most interesting (my opinion) of the
projects that I reviewed.
Click on the link to view the abstracts:
- Video cameras, display technology, Head Mounted Displays, etc.
- Microwave,
millimeter wave viewing, Synthetic Aperature Radar, etc.
- Energy Weapons, and some countermeasures
- Micro
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
- Super
capacitors
- High
Voltage, high power switches and related projects
- Super
Body Armour, armour plate, munitions, explosives, etc.
- Electrical power generation super batteries, solar cells (very,
very powerful and very cheap!):
- Optics, Lasers, Electrocamoflauge, other optical projects
- Human tracking devices, covert surveillance, GPS equipment, robotic explosive
devices, etc.
- Computer related projects, covert virus software, super memory storage
- Rockets,thrusters,aircraft,spacecraft related
- Very special materials and materials processing
- Remote controlled and fully Autonamous Vehicles
- Nuclear related
- Miscellaneous
- guaranteed chock full of really interesting projects!
Of course I do not expect you to just out-and-out believe me on
all this!
The proof? I found all of this and much more in abstracts that
DARPA periodically publishes.
Some examples on the Web as of 09/12/99:
DARPA solicitation information from their own SBIR site: http://www.sbirsttr.com/
You can find much info here - just follow links to SBIR on http://iridium.nttc.edu/

For info on the SBIR program, go visit them! : http://www.acq.osd.mil/sadbu/sbir/
For a first hand account of the SBIR program, and how the government cancelled the
project and failed to protect the commercial airplanes YOU ride in, go visit Mr. A.E. Pevler, President of Texas Engineering Systems, who
was contracted to design an anti-terrorist system against EMP weapons: http://www.dallas.net/~pevler/

A new law is in the works which would allow law
enforcement agents to SECRETLY invade your home and modify your PC with just such a virus
when you are not there. See: http://www.infowar.com/class_1/99/class1_083199a_j.shtml
