I have taken a number of gap loss measurements and am beginning to
get a handle on them. You cannot simply scale results up since the gap
resistance is inversely proportional to the total charge used in the
discharge. There are also residual ion considerations which vary as the
temperature of the plasma varies. I am looking at gap losses using single
shot experiments at typical tesla voltages. When I get more experimental
data, I will let the group know what's going on.
I have also been doing a number of computer simulations based on
coupled lossy LRC circuits and have recognized how important primary losses
are in impacting output energy. I am now looking at peak energy coupled
into the secondary rather than peak voltage, since it appears to have a
better relationship with spark length. I would like to hear the group's
comments on this.
