Subject: [TSSP] Variation of secondary capacitance with h/d
Volunteer wanted. There's a little project here for anyone interested in running the simulator software. Something I could run myself here, but, well I've got enough to do, and this is an important little thing which can be run fairly easily. The task is to reproduce the graph of figure 9 in Medhurst. The idea is to prepare, one way or another, around 20 input files, describing solenoids of various diameters, all of the same length. Run each through the programs tcap and tforce to locate the f1 resonance and extract Cee. Plot Cee/d against h/d to reproduce Medhurst fig 9. Then you can determine what h/d gives the minimum energy storage capacitance. It should also be possible to plot the separate contributions of Cint and Cext, to confirm that the minimum C occurs when Cext and Cint cross over. You could repeat the exercise with a toroided coil. See how the best energy storage h/d changes. Will probably need to write a little program to generate input files. If anyone's interested in running this, get in touch and I'll supply more details if necessary. You'll need to run the new simulator code which I'll try to get out over the weekend.
